Text: Luke 19: 11-19

A WRONG UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE KINGDOM OF GOD

1. Many failed to understand the Teaching about the Kingdom of God.

a. Some thought it was a political and earthly kingdom.
b. Some of them thought that this kingdom would appear immediately.

2. This wrong understanding had to be corrected.

a. A wrong understanding must be corrected.
b. Truth must be affirmed and upheld.

THE PARABLE OF THE MINAS I

1. Once again, the Lord Jesus taught the people by a Parable.

2. Features of the Parable of the Minas :

a. There was a nobleman
i. He was to receive a kingdom for himself.
i. He had to travel a long distance to obtain this kingdom.
iii. He would return soon.
iv. He gave his 10 servants, 10 minas (Luke 19:13a).
(One servant received one mina each; one mina is about 60 shekels.)
v. He exhorted them with these words.

“Do business till I come.”

Luke 19:13b

b. But there were some who did not like him.
i. They hated him.
ii. A delegation was sent to reject the giving of a kingdom to him (Luke 19:14).
c. All the servants had to account for the money given to them (Luke 19:15).
i. One servant did exceptionally well.

“Master, your mina has earned ten minas.”

Luke 19:16
(That is 1000% profit.)

ii. Another servant reported.

“Master, your mina has earned 5 minas.”

Luke 19:18
(That is 500% profit.)

d. The Commendation of the servants who had been faithful:
i. The one who had earned 10 minas.

“Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.”

Luke 19:17

ii. The one who had earned 5 minas.

“Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.”
