"For behold, I will save you from afar"

Text: Jeremiah 30:10

GOD’S PLAN OF RESTORATION I

God’s plan for Israel was revealed. The Plan of the LORD involved a number of features. These must be clearly understood.

“‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the LORD,
‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel;
For behold, I will save you from afar,
And your seed from the land of their captivity.
Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet,
And no one shall make him afraid.'”
Jeremiah 30:10

1. “‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the LORD,
‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel'”

a) Israel was addressed as Jacob.

b) The name “Jacob”.

i) It represented sin and failure.

ii) It also symbolised problems and great fear.

c) The name “Israel”.

i) It represented a new beginning.

ii) It symbolised hope for the future.

d) Jacob was still regarded:

i) As God’s servant.

ii) God would stand by His servant.

e) Fear and dismay.
Israel need not give in to these feelings.

2. “For behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity”

a) God promised deliverance.

b) He will save them though they are far from their homeland.

c) God will save their descendants (their seed) from their land of captivity
(Babylon).

3. “Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, and no one shall make him afraid”

a) The return of Jacob (Israel) was promised repeatedly.

b) This was to give needed assurance.

c) God’s promise must be believed in.

i) There will be rest.

ii) There will be quietness.

iii) No one would make them afraid (This is a reference to foreign enemies especially).
