"You shall be My people, and I will be your God"

Text: Jeremiah 30:22

FURTHER PROMISES FROM THE LORD

The loss suffered by Judah was very severe. They had lost children, nobles and governors. The LORD promised to restore fully.

“‘Their children also shall be as before,
And their congregation shall be established before Me;
And I will punish all who oppress them.
Their nobles shall be from among them,
And their governor shall come from their midst;
Then I will cause him to draw near,
And he shall approach Me;
For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the LORD.
‘You shall be My people,
And I will be your God.'”
Jeremiah 30:20-22

1. “Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before Me”

a) Children would be born to replenish the losses sustained by war.

b) The congregation of the faithful would be established by the LORD.

2. “And I will punish all who oppress them”

a) There need not be fear of oppressors.

b) God would deal with them summarily.

3. “Their nobles shall be from among them”

a) Nobles would arise.

b) God would raise up the nobility.

4. “‘And their governor shall come from their midst;
Then I will cause him to draw near,and he shall approach Me;
For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the LORD.”

a) The nation would need a good governor.

b) God would cause him to draw near.

c) The good governor would respond appropriately.
He would approach the LORD indeed.

5. “‘For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the LORD”

a) The governor may not come from an illustrious family.

b) Many may wonder who the governor is.

c) What really matters is that the governor (leader) had pledged his heart to the LORD.

6. “You shall be My people, and I will be your God”

a) Full restoration is in view.

b) The Returnees would be God’s people.

c) He would be their God!
