My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
Text: Luke 22: 41-42
PRAYING IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE II
1. Some prayers are easier to offer.
a. Simple requests
b. Thanksgiving
c. Praise
2. Other prayers are harder to offer.
a. Submission to the Will of God.
b. Life and Death issues.
THE PRAYER IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE WAS A DIFFICULT ONE TO OFFER
“And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, ‘Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.’”
Luke 22:41-42
1. This Prayer had to be made alone.
2. The Lord Jesus withdrew from His Disciples a short distance away.
3. His prayer was offered to His Father, on His knees.
a. It expressed humility.
b. It also expressed willingness to submit to His Father’s Will.
4. The words of the Lord Jesus uttered in prayer:
a. He voiced what He felt deep in His heart.
i. Sincerely
ii. Honestly
iii. Humbly
iv. Humanly
b. Taking the cup away.
i. The “cup” represents what He would have to accept and drink.
ii. This was a “cup” of deepest sorrow that He felt.
iii. It was a “cup” of Judgment that He would have to bear.
iv. It was a very bitter “cup” and it was full!
c. Submission to God’s will.
i. If God wills that the Lord Jesus drink from the “cup” then He will do so.
ii. He will fulfil what His Father desires.
iii. He will drain the bitter “cup” of sorrow, suffering and judgment!

c. 赞美
ii.
iii.
iv. 人性地
iii.
iii.
