Jeremiah
"I brought them into the house of the LORD"
Text: Jeremiah 35:4
A SPECIAL INVITATION
Not everyone has the privilege of living in the house of the LORD. There were many buildings that became the house of the LORD complex. An invitation to feast in one of the residences would be considered a high honour.
“Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah,
his brothers and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites,
and I brought them into the house of the LORD,
into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, a man of God,
which was by the chamber of the princes,
above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door.
Then I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, ‘Drink wine.'”
Jeremiah 35:3-5
1. “Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah,
his brothers and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites”
a) The whole house of the Rechabites was invited.
b) The chief of this clan was Jaazaniah, the son of Jeremiah
(not the prophet Jeremiah).
c) His brothers and all the sons were invited too.
2. “And I brought them into the house of the LORD,
into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, a man of God,
which was by the chamber of the princes,
above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door”
a) Jeremiah did not live in the house of the LORD.
b) His friends, the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah,
a man of God had a residence in the house of the LORD.
c) Their home was above the chamber of the house of Maaseiah,
the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door.
3. “Then I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups;
and I said to them, ‘Drink wine'”
a) There was a feast given to the Rechabites.
b) It was usual to drink a toast to the honoured guests.
c) Wine was the usual drink that was served at mealtime.
d) Jeremiah played host and served wine to his guests.
How would the Rechabites respond?
