Text: Galatians 2: 4-5

MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION

“And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage., to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.”

Galatians 2:4-5

THE DANGER TO THE CHURCH

1. The danger highlighted:

a. There were people who were “false”.
b. They posed as “brethren”.
c. But they were not true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ at all.

2. What did they do in the churches in Galatia?

a. They came in “secretly”.
b. They came to spy on the believers in Galatia.
c. They wanted to find out more about the “liberty” which all believers had in the Lord.

3. Our liberty in the Lord Jesus Christ.

a. Freed from the law of sin.
b. Freed from traditions and customs.
c. Freed to become true children of God.

4. What were these false brethren trying to do?

a. They were seeking to enslave Christians.
b. They wanted believers to follow them.
c. They would have put all believers back into bondage.

5. Resistance from the Apostle Paul and his team.

a. Paul and his team saw through the schemes of the false brethren.
b. They resisted the false brethren strenuously.
c. They did not concede even one hour to the false brethren.
d. These people were false and they had to be opposed and exposed.

6. The truth of the Gospel.

a. This must not be taken for granted.
b. It must resist every attempt to corrupt it.
c. The truth of the Gospel must be defended at all costs.
