MY STRENGTH AND MY SHIELD
Text: Psalm 28
14 August 2022
THE CHALLENGES OF LIFE
David was anointed to be the king of ancient Israel. The work of being the ruler was fraught with difficulties.
- There were enemies
a) To battle
b) To overcome
- There was economic concern
a) The progress of the country
b) The welfare of the citizens
THE NEED FOR THE LORD’S HELP
David knew that he needed the help of the LORD desperately. Two things stood out to him in his reign as king.
6 Blessed be the Lord,
Because He has heard the voice of my supplications!
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:6-7
- The LORD must be his Strength
a) The workload of a king was very heavy
b) He was overall-in-charge of just about everything in the kingdom
i) The judiciary
ii) The defense of the nation
iii ) The spiritual state of the people
c) Without God’s strength, it would be impossible
- The LORD must be his Shield
a) David must do his part in raising a strong army
b) But ultimately, only God can give full protection
OUR CHALLENGE
Let us be challenged to emulate the example of David. Let us find in the LORD, our strength and our shield! Thank God He has been our strength and shield for the past 49 years of ministry as a Church!
