MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION

“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, ‘In you all the nations shall be blessed.’ So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.”

Galatians 3:8-9

CITING THE SCRIPTURES

1. The high regard of the Scriptures

a. The Jews had a high regard for the Scriptures.

b. Paul cited the Scriptures in the hope that the Scriptures would speak to the hearts of all.

2. The Scriptures had a strong prophetic element.

a. The Scriptures foresaw the justification of Gentiles by faith.

b. It was not merely foreseeing, but a prophecy.

3. The gospel preached to Abraham.

a. The gospel Paul proclaimed:

i. The main focus was Justification by faith.

ii. This was the same message Abraham was given.

iii. Abraham believed and he was justified by faith.

b. The prophetic element:

i. This was found in this statement, “In you all the nations shall be blessed”.

ii. The phrase “the nations” simply translates as “The Gentiles”.

c. Prophecy requires fulfilment.

i. This prophecy was fulfilled when Gentiles are justified by faith.

ii. Paul’s citation of Scripture was to demonstrate this truth.

4. Those who have found faith.

a. They are wonderfully blessed.

b. They are blessed with “believing Abraham”.

c. Justification by faith is an age-old doctrine worthy of all acceptance.
