Day 2

"The LORD has spoken"

Text: Isaiah 1:2

A CANDID MESSAGE

The LORD gave to Isaiah a specific and candid message to the kingdom of Judah.

“Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth!
For the LORD has spoken:
‘I have nourished and brought up children,
And they have rebelled against Me;
The ox knows its owner
And the donkey its master’s crib;
But Israel does not know,
My people do not consider.'”
Isaiah 1:2-3

1. “Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken”

a) This message came from “The LORD” Himself.

b) This word was to be made known publicly:

i) The heavens were addressed.

ii) The earth was also addressed.

2. “I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me”

a) God’s work in caring for Israel.

b) God was Father to His people.

i) He had nourished the nation.

ii) He had brought up the people as His “children”.

c) The “sad reality”

i) Israel had not been grateful at all.

ii) Instead, the nation had rebelled against the LORD.

iii) This response was uncalled for and most inappropriate.

iv) This rebellious spirit of Israel was absolutely sinful.

3. “The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master’s crib”

a) A sobering illustration of an ox was given.
The ox knows and recognizes its owner.

b) Another sobering illustration was given.
The donkey knows how the master had looked after it from young.

4. “But Israel does not know, My people do not consider”

a) Israel was called “God’s people” and also His “children”.

b) But the nation:

i) It did not acknowledge God.

ii) It did not consider all that the LORD had done for the people.

iii) God had wonderfully provided and protected but there was no
appreciation.
