Text: Colossians 1: 3-4
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints.”
Colossians 1:3-4
WITH THANKSGIVING IN THE HEART
1. Paul always included those who were serving with him.
2. Their hearts were filled with thanksgiving as they were informed about the Colossian Church by Epaphras, their pastor.
3. A heart of thanksgiving was well-cultivated by the Apostle Paul.
4. This is taught in the Scriptures.
a. “Offer to God thanksgiving” Psalm 50:14
b. “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me” Psalm 50:23
PRAYING FOR THE COLOSSIANS
1. Paul and his team were given to praying to God.
a. It was normal to pray.
b. It was natural to pray.
2. Thanking God the Father in prayer.
a. All prayers are directed to God the Father.
b. This was what the Lord Jesus taught His Disciples.
c. Paul practised what the Lord had taught him.
MOVED TO PRAY
1. Paul felt moved to pray to God in thanksgiving.
2. The Colossians had displayed the following features:
a. They had found faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
b. They were also able to show a heart of love for all the saints.
3. This heart of love reflected what the Lord Jesus emphasised to His Disciples.
a. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
b. “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12
