Text: Colossians 1: 19-20

MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY

“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”

Colossians 1:19-20

FULLNESS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. The word “fulness” may be applied to the Lord Jesus Christ perfectly.

2. This word would be a good summation of what has been described in Colossians 1:13-18.

3. The following aspects may be highlighted in summary:

a. Fulness in His Divinity.
b. Fulness in His humanity.
c. Fulness in all His accomplishments.
d. Fullness of glory and honour to be ascribed to Him.

HOW DOES GOD THE FATHER FEEL ABOUT THIS MATTER?

1. God is indeed well-pleased in the Son.

2. He declared this on at least two occasions:

a. At the baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’”

Matthew 3:17

b. At the transfiguration of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is
My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’”

Matthew 17:5

c. Twice, God declared openly His love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
d. Twice, God declared openly that He is well-pleased for the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. God will give the Lord Jesus well-deserved glory.

“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. ‘Father, glorify Your name.’ Then a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.’”

John 12:27-28

a. God had glorified the Lord Jesus in His earthly ministry.
b. He will glorify His name at death and at His resurrection.
c. The Lord Jesus would always be glorified by the Father.

THE SPECIAL WORK OF RECONCILIATION

1. The Lord has removed the enmity between man and God.

2. He has brought about full reconciliation with God.

3. He has brought about peace with God.

4. He did this when He shed His blood on the cross of Calvary.

5. This reconciliation is full and complete.

a. It covers all matters relating to Heaven.
b. It also covers all matters relating to earth.

与上帝复合

1. 主耶稣将世人与上帝的怨取走

4. 祂通过在十字架上所流的血使世人能够与天父复合
