MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.”
Colossians 2:4-5
REASONS FOR WRITING COLOSSIANS
1. There were a few reasons why Paul wrote an Epistle to the Colossian Church.
2. Two may be highlighted:
a. To encourage them to grow further in their faith.
b. To help them battle against false teachers and false teachings.
THE DANGER OF DECEPTION
1. There were false teachers who sought to influence believers to follow them.
2. Their methodology was exposed by the Apostle Paul.
a. They were skilled at using “persuasive words”.
b. They used their skill with words to deceive believers.
THE SCENARIO OF THE CHURCH BEFORE THE ENTRANCE OF THE FALSE TEACHERS
1. The believers had “good order” in the church.
a. They had listened well to their pastor Epaphras (Colossians 1:7).
b. They had found genuine faith.
c. They even had love for each other in the church.
d. Paul wrote to commend them for their Christian conduct (Colossians 1:3-6).
2. The believers were also known to be “steadfast in their faith” in the Lord Jesus (Colossians 2:5).
a. This would suggest that they had established a good foundation for their faith.
b. They had grown in their faith too.
THE THREAT TO THE COLOSSIAN CHURCH
1. Paul had much experience in dealing with false teachers.
2. He was well-aware of the way they operated.
3. He was determined to help the Colossians to hold fast to their faith.
a. Paul would bring his experience to the forefront.
b. He would expose the false teachers.
c. He would show the Colossians the weaknesses and the flaws of the theology they proclaimed.
4. They must learn:
a. To be more discerning.
b. To be more steadfast.
c. To be less naïve in their outlook of faith and life.

经文:歌罗西书 2
“我说这话,免得有人用花言巧语迷惑你们。 我身子虽与你们相离,心却与你们同在,见你们循规蹈矩,信基督的心也坚固,我就欢喜了。”
