My Song In The Night (Vital Doctrines)
我夜间的歌曲《重要教义-救恩》
Text: Colossians 2:11
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ.”
Colossians 2:11
A STRONG CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS RITUAL
1. Paul was a Jew and was brought up strictly as a Pharisee.
2. A great part of his upbringing was the insistence of keeping their cultural traditions.
3. The rite of circumcision was a major ritual:
a. Religious
b. Cultural
4. Some false teachers insisted that all male Gentiles must be circumcised or they would be failing in their obedience to God.
5. Circumcision for the Jew represents:
a. Cleansing
b. Belonging to God as His covenant people.
A CIRCUMCISION MADE WITHOUT HANDS
1. Paul advanced a Biblical teaching about a spiritual circumcision.
2. He focused on the circumcision that is made without hands.
3. What does that mean?
a. Circumcision has a symbolic meaning.
b. It symbolises the cutting away that which is unclean.
c. That which is unclean.
i. The sins of the flesh.
ii. The sins of our life.
THE WORK OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
1. He came to offer the following (with reference to our sins):
a. He offers forgiveness.
b. He grants a full pardon.
c. He offers cleansing from our sins.
2. Thus, the sinner stands before God as:
a. One who is cleansed.
b. One who belongs to God in the New Covenant in the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. When we speak of faith in the Lord Jesus:
a. We are identified with Him fully.
b. In His circumcision, we are considered as having been circumcised too.
c. But this circumcision is spiritual, for it is made without human hands.
