My Song In The Night (Vital Doctrines)
我夜间的歌曲《重要教义-救恩》
Text: Colossians 4: 2-4
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.”
Colossians 4:2-4
THE PRACTICE OF PRAYER
1. This was well exemplified in the Old Testament.
a. Many significant prayers were recorded.
b. Many of the Psalms were actually prayers.
c. The prophets of old were people who engaged in seeking God in prayer.
2. The Lord Jesus Christ
a. He exemplified the spirit of prayer.
b. He gave to His disciples, “The Lord’s Prayer” as a model of how to pray meaningfully.
c. He urged the Disciples to always be prayerful.
EXHORTATION TO KEEP PRAYING
1. Paul was a man of prayer too.
2. In his epistles, he would always seek to pray for the brethren and the churches.
3. He also took the time to explain how the Spirit of God would help all believers in their prayer efforts.
4. He urged the Colossians to be even more prayerful.
5. The following elements help make prayers effective:
a. Prayers must be made earnestly.
i. Sadly, prayers are often offered “casually”.
ii. The very nature of prayer involves a sense of urgency.
b. Prayers must also be made vigilantly.
i. Prayers are often made in times of need.
ii. Vigilance must be part of the way we pray.
c. Prayers ought to be made with thanksgiving:
i. For hearing prayers.
ii. For answering them.
A PERSONAL REQUEST
1. Paul expressed that he would appreciate prayer support.
2. He asked the Colossians to pray for him and for his ministry.
a. That doors would be opened up for ministry.
i. The “open doors” approach was a principle in Paul’s ministry.
ii. He would pray that God would open doors for ministry (2 Corinthians 2:12).
b. That skill would be given to preach the “mystery of Christ”.
i. There were many who were ignorant of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii. To them the Lord Jesus was “a mystery”.
iii. To make manifest (plain and simple. the significance of the message of the Gospel.
c. Paul knew that there would also be great resistance to the Gospel message.
i. He was in chains for having preached the gospel.
ii. He was not afraid of suffering for the Lord.
iii. Intercessory prayer would go a long way to uphold his ministry.
