YAG I: Book of Deuteronomy – Sng Wan Ying
Setting My Heart on the Lord
I started this year reading the book of Proverbs and one verse that I have been meditating on is Proverbs 1:7a, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge”, as I seek to know and love the Lord more. The lessons from Deuteronomy 32 that Pastor Mitch had been teaching were timely and helped to further deepen my knowledge of who God is and learning what it means to fear the Lord.
As we went through the chapter, I was able to see the different aspects of who God is: The LORD is fully committed to loving us and would be there with us (Deuteronomy 32:10–11), He provides for and blesses His people (Deuteronomy 32:13–14), He is a jealous and righteous God (Deuteronomy 32:15–18), He is a God of justice (Deuteronomy 32:19–25), He is merciful (Deuteronomy 32:26–27, 34–35), He is sovereign and all powerful (Deuteronomy 32:39).
There were many applications and responses that were taught. Two that stood out to me were remembering and setting my heart on God and His Words.
The first challenge for me is to remember the answered prayers the Lord has granted, His grace and mercies in the small and big things in my life, as well as what was written in the Word where the Lord was with Israel and would not leave or forsake them.
The other challenge that I wanted to focus on is setting my heart on the Lord and His Words (Deuteronomy 32:46), to learn to love the Lord deeper, to obey His voice, and to cling to Him and His Words as it says in Deuteronomy 30:20. As I seek to love the Lord deeper, I want to be more sensitive to Him so that I can obey Him.
The study of Deuteronomy 32 has been beneficial and I enjoyed learning these lessons.
