MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. For I bear him witness that he has a great zeal for you, and those who are in Laodicea, and those in Hierapolis. Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you. Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea, and Nymphas and the church that is in his house.”
Colossians 4:12-15
A LIST OF CLOSE FRIENDS OF THE APOSTLE PAUL III
1. Epaphras
a. He was from Colosse.
b. He was honoured by Paul.
i. He was a bondservant of the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii. He was a man of prayer.
iii. His intercessory prayers were compared to fervent work.
c. His goals in ministry in Colosse:
i. That the Colossians may be “perfect” (spiritually mature..
ii. That they may be “complete” (thoroughly equipped. for ministry.
iii. To fulfil the will of God.
d. Paul’s additional word of testimony.
i. Epaphras’ zeal was admirable.
ii. His zeal was not limited to just Colosse.
iii. His zeal saw him reaching out to other cities.
iv. Two were named (Laodicea and Hierapolis).
2. Luke
a. He was a physician by training.
b. He was a faithful companion of the Apostle Paul.
c. Paul addressed him as “the beloved physician”.
d. He sent greetings to the Colossians too.
3. Demas
a. At this point of time, he was serving with Paul.
b. Sadly, he was drawn to the world and ended up forsaking Paul (2 Timothy 4:10).
4. Laodicean Church
a. A church was planted in Laodicea.
b. Greetings were sent to them to encourage their hearts.
5. Nymphas
a. He used his house as a church.
b. House churches were common in those days.
c. Paul sent greetings to acknowledge them.
