"Streams in the desert"

Text: Isaiah 35:6

HEALING AND RESTORATION

The restoration of the land of Israel was in mind. Healing was part of the restoration plans. Both people and the physical land were in mind.

“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the dumb sing.
For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,
And streams in the desert.
The parched ground shall become a pool,
And the thirsty land springs of water;
In the habitation of jackals, where each lay,
There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.”
Isaiah 35:5-7

1. Healing of the people

a) Both physical and spiritual healing must be borne in mind.

b) Part of this was prophetic.

c) The fulfilment of this prophecy may be seen in the ministry of the Lord Jesus.

i) The blind received their sight.

ii) The deaf heard with their ears.

iii) The lame walked.

iv) The dumb spoke/sang.

2. Healing of the Land.

a) The wilderness would be given water.

b) Even the desert would have streams.

c) The parched ground.

i) Pools would be formed.

ii) The dry and thirsty land would have springs of water.

iii) Grass with reeds and rushes would be found.

d) The land would no longer be the dominion of jackals.

i) In part, these were fulfilled when the remnant returned.

ii) But the total fulfilment is yet future.
