"And I will turn you back"

Text: Isaiah 37:29

A STRONG RESPONSE TO ASSYRIAN ARROGANCE

The Assyrians had grown more and more abusive as their arrogance grew. The LORD had a strong word for Assyria.

“But I know your dwelling place,
Your going out and your coming in,
And your rage against Me.
Because your rage against Me and your tumult
Have come up to My ears,
Therefore I will put My hook in your nose
And My bridle in your lips,
And I will turn you back
By the way which you came.”
Isaiah 37:28-29

1. God’s Omniscience.

a) God knew everything about Assyria.

i) Its dwelling place.

ii) Its movements.

b) God was also aware of Assyria’s rage.

i) Its rage was against God.

ii) But its rage has no impact on the LORD at all.

2. The rage of a wild animal.

a) Assyria was compared to a wild animal.

b) It was like a rogue animal that had rampaged the land.

c) Its wars were causing a tumult.

d) This wild animal would be halted by God.

3. What God would do.

a) He would control the wild animal.

i) A nose hook would be used.

ii) A bridle would also be employed.

b) Assyria would be led back to its own domain.

i) It would not be allowed to rampage further.

ii) Its bid to conquer Jerusalem, Judah would fail.
