THE DISTINCTIVENESS OF GOD’S OWN LOVE

“His own love toward us…”   Romans 5:8

1. It is a supreme love

a. Only God can show and prove His own love

b. His divine love is unlike any kind of human love

c. No one else can show such love

2. It is a sacrificial love

a. It is a love that gives most sacrificially

b. Much is offered for the sake of others

THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S OWN LOVE

“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”   Romans 5:6-8

1. God manifests His love

a. It is more than just demonstrating

b. He is manifesting His love

i. He manifested His love in the past

ii. He continues to manifest His love

2. God proves His love

a. When we were still without strength

b. While we were still ungodly

c. While we were still sinners

3. God establishes His love for us

a. He sent His Son to die for us.  (John 3:16)

b. Through His death

i. We have been reconciled to God

ii. We shall be saved by His life.

c. This act established God’s love for us

d. This is His ultimate expression of love for us

THE CONFIDENCE IN THE POWER OF GOD’S LOVE

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”   Romans 8:37-39

1. Nothing can separate us from the love of God

2. His love does not wane even in the challenges of life

3. The power of His love enables us to have a conquering spirit in life.

APPROPRIATE RESPONSES

1. To have faith in the Lord Jesus

a. We can be reconciled to God through faith

b. We can experience how wonderful this love is

2. To deeply appreciate God’s kind of love

a. With great gratitude

b. With great joy

3. To be more than conquerors through His love

a. Nothing separates us from His love

b. His love drives us to overcome
