Text: Romans 8

Subject: “All things work together for good”

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Romans 8:28-30

1. A profound Biblical concept

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

a) All things work together for good

i) To those who love God

ii) To the called

iii) According to His purpose

b) It takes much to comprehend this doctrine

i) Knowledge

ii) Faith

iii) Spiritual maturity

2. Biblical Proof of this profound concept

29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Romans 8:29-30

a) Foreknowledge

“For whom He foreknew” （Rom 8:29a）

b) Predestined

He also predestined （Rom 8:29b）

i) Conformed

To be conformed to the image of His Son （Rom 8:29c）

ii) Firstborn

That He might be the firstborn among many brethren （Rom 8:29d）

c) Called

Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called （Rom 8:30a）

d) Justified

Whom He called, these He also justified （Rom 8:30b）

e) Glorified

And whom He justified, these He also glorified （Rom 8:30c）

3. Five aspects were highlighted

a) They are interrelated

b) Each point is complex

c) They are to be put together to form a full doctrinal concept

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

1. A difficult concept to comprehend

a) From the human perspective

b) Some of the aspects cannot be fully comprehended immediately

c) The challenge is to see how they can be tied together correctly

2. A difficult concept but a glorious one when we review lives and ministries

a) Case in point

Amy Carmichael

b) Rejected for ministry in China because of health reasons

c) Unable to cope with life in Japan

d) Yet, she succeeded admirably in her ministry in Tamil Nadu
