"My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands"

Text: Isaiah 65:22

THE ELECT OF GOD

Life and death are things that we have no control over. Life seems fragile and even precarious at times. In this special word of promise God offers a different perspective.

“No more shall an infant from there live but a few days,
Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days;
For the child shall die one hundred years old,
But the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed.
They shall build houses and inhabit them;
They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build and another inhabit;
They shall not plant and another eat;
For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people,
And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.”
Isaiah 65:20-22

1. Premature death

a) Some die when they are but infants.

b) Death also comes to older people but unexpectedly.

c) These were not uncommon experiences.

2. A wonderful hope offered.

a) A child would die when he is a centenarian.

b) Only a dreadful sinner would die when he is only one hundred years old.

c) This would be a totally different perspective altogether.

3. Reaping the rewards of one’s labour.

a) In the past, homes were built but others benefitted.

b) Vineyards were planted but the owners lost them to invaders.

c) This would not happen anymore in God’s new plan for His people.

4. The blessings of the LORD for the elect.

a) They will live in the homes they have built.

b) They will enjoy the fruit of their labour.

c) They would have long lives.

d) The elect of God would enjoy the blessing of God bestowed on their works.
