"Then the Spirit entered me"

Text: Ezekiel 3:24

THE SPIRIT OF GOD

The Spirit of God was directly involved in the life of Ezekiel. A study of His involvement is highly instructive.

“Then the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet,
and spoke with me and said to me:
‘Go, shut yourself inside your house.
And you, O son of man,
surely they will put ropes on you and bind you with them,
so that you cannot go out among them.'”
Ezekiel 3:24-25

1. The Spirit entering into Ezekiel.

a) The first mention of this is found in Ezekiel 2:2.

b) This was the second mention (Ezekiel 3:24).

i) This is not just a reference to the indwelling of the Spirit.

ii) It is an important reference to the direct involvement of the Holy Spirit.

2. The Spirit lifting up Ezekiel.

a) This was first noted in Ezekiel 3:12.

b) It was noted again in Ezekiel 3:14.

i) He may lift up spiritually.

ii) He may lift up physically.

3. Setting Ezekiel up on his feet.

a) The Holy Spirit caused Ezekiel to stand up on his feet.

b) This was first noted in Ezekiel 2:2.

c) It is mentioned again here Ezekiel 3:24.

d) The Spirit of God must be thoroughly involved.

4. Instructing Ezekiel.

a) The Spirit of God personally instructed Ezekiel.

b) He has full authority to speak to the prophet directly.

i) Ezekiel was to stay confined in his house.

ii) He would be accosted by people who opposed him.

iii) He would be bound by ropes too.

iv) He would be unable to go out of his house.

5. Two parts of the same action.

a) Enemies would seek to restrain Ezekiel from fulfilling his ministry:

i) As a prophet.

ii) As a watchman.

b) But this was allowed by the Holy Spirit.

i) He helped Ezekiel to anticipate house arrest.

ii) He helped the prophet to prepare for this harassment.
