"My eye will not spare"

Text: Ezekiel 7:9

A FLAWED UNDERSTANDING

Jerusalem had believed that God would always exercise mercy and lovingkindness. Judah’s kings had believed that they are so special God would never judge them, even if they were sinful and wicked. This understanding of God was fundamentally flawed!

“My eye will not spare,
Nor will I have pity;
I will repay you according to your ways,
And your abominations will be in your midst.
Then you shall know that I am the LORD who strikes.”
Ezekiel 7:9

1. A clear statement from God.

a) His eye will not spare.

b) He will not show pity.

2. That God will judge His people was made clear from the days of Moses.

“So you shall not turn aside from any of the words
which I command you this day, to the right or the left,
to go after other gods to serve them.
But it shall come to pass,
if you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God,
to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes
which I command you today,
that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.”
Deuteronomy 28:14-15

a) If the people turned aside from God’s word.

b) If they went after other gods and served them.

c) If they refused to obey the LORD.

d) They would face the judgment of God.

e) Curses from God would befall the nation.

3. God will requite.

a) He will repay the people for their sinful ways.

b) The abominations they practised would be judged without pity.

4. They will know the LORD.

a) He would be all that He is… the LORD.

b) They will know Him as the LORD who strikes.

c) This knowledge would be learned painfully.
