"Their detestable things"

Text: Ezekiel 7:20

THE GIFTS OF THE LORD

The LORD blessed Israel with many wonderful things. They were given a country to call their own. They were blessed with prosperity and wealth. But they abused what God had given to them.

“As for the beauty of his ornaments,
He set it in majesty;
But they made from it
The images of their abominations—
Their detestable things;
Therefore I have made it
Like refuse to them.
I will give it as plunder
Into the hands of strangers,
And to the wicked of the earth as spoil;
And they shall defile it.”
Ezekiel 7:20-21

1. God’s blessings described:

a) Beauty

b) Majesty

c) For these blessings came from the LORD.

2. Misuse and abuse of blessings.

a) They made images to worship.

b) These were abomination to the LORD.

c) They were detestable in God’s sight.

3. God’s determination.

a) They will become like refuse.

b) These silver and gold images would become plunder to their enemies.

c) They will become spoils and plunder to the strangers who would invade the land of Judah.

d) Those who are wicked would come into Jerusalem and Judah and take away the idols the people worshipped.

e) They will defile the idols that Judah had worshipped as deities.
