9 I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,
11 saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”

THE WRITER OF REVELATION

1. Description of himself

a) A fellow brother in the faith
b) A companion in tribulation

2. The kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ

a) Tribulation is included
b) Suffering must be understood and accepted
c) But there is also the Perseverance (endurance) of the Lord
d) He who endures to the end Matt 24:13

3. The tribulation of John

a) Exiled to the island of Patmos
b) “For the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

c) Patmos was part of ancient Greece

4. The vision revealed to John

a) He was “in the Spirit”
b) It was on the Lord’s Day (Sunday)

5. The Lord Jesus manifested Himself to John

a) Remembering what the Lord said
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him
John 14:21
b) John was truly blessed and privileged
i) The Lord Jesus manifested Himself to him
ii) He heard a voice that sounded like a trumpet (distinct)
c) This was the Lord Jesus speaking to John personally
i) “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last”
ii) These are remarkably high titles of the Lord
iii) He no longer spoke of Himself as “The Son of Man”

6. A special task assigned to John

a) He would be given many things to see (visions)
b) He must write all that he would see into a book
c) He must send this book to the 7 churches of Asia Minor
“To Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
