"They did not turn aside when they went"
Text: Ezekiel 10:11
VERSATILE FEATURES OF THE WHEELS
Chariots were a major force in wars in the ancient days. They were able to move rapidly. They wielded great power and would tilt the war in the favour of the Babylonians as they rose up to attack Judah. What about the wheels of the cherubim?
“When they went, they went toward any of their four directions;
they did not turn aside when they went,
but followed in the direction the head was facing.
They did not turn aside when they went.
And their whole body, with their back, their hands, their wings,
and the wheels that the four had, were full of eyes all around.
As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing, ‘Wheel.'”
Ezekiel 10:11-13
1. The mobility of the wheels.
a) They could go in any direction.
b) They could manoeuvre in four directions.
c) No human chariot could do that!
2. The Wheels would not suffer from any malfunction.
a) When the direction is chosen, it would not turn aside.
b) Nothing would hinder its plan to head towards the direction.
3. The cherubim who were in charge of the wheels.
a) They were tremendously coordinated.
i) Back
ii) Hands
iii) Wings
iv) Eyes
b) Cherubim and Wheels were melded as if they were one.
i) The Wheels seemed to be alive to the cherubim.
ii) The cherubim simply and affectionately call their vehicles “Wheels”.
4. The comparison with human chariots and charioteers.
a) Human chariots and charioteers were never one.
b) The performance of chariots depended on the skills of the charioteers.
c) The chariots could sometimes fall apart because of overuse.
