Day 118

"None of My words will be postponed"

Text: Ezekiel 12:28

ANOTHER COMMON SAYING

There were many common sayings that floated around in Judah. Unfortunately, these common sayings were erroneous.

“Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
‘Son of man, look, the house of Israel is saying,
‘The vision that he sees is for many days from now,
and he prophesies of times far off.’
Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD:
‘None of My words will be postponed any more,
but the word which I speak will be done,’ says the Lord GOD.””
Ezekiel 12:26-28

1. The word of the Lord.

a) This was given by the Lord to counter the wrong sayings.

b) Truth must be proclaimed to defeat erroneous sayings.

2. One common saying addressed.

a) That the vision of God will not be fulfilled anytime soon.

b) It is “for many days from now”.

c) It was thus not relevant to the here and now.

3. Another common saying.

a) That the prophet was speaking of “times far off”.

b) It has to do with the far future.

c) It does not apply to the present situation.

4. The problem analysed.

a) Sometimes, the Lord delays or postpones the execution of a threat.

b) This may be because:

i) There was national repentance.

ii) There was a strong intercessor.

iii) God would then postpone action.

5. No more postponement.

a) Postponement had been misunderstood.

b) Israel failed to see God’s mercy in postponement.

c) This time round, there would be no postponement.

d) The Lord’s word concerning Judah and Jerusalem would be fulfilled.

i) Judah would be conquered.

ii) Jerusalem would be razed to the ground.

iii) The Temple would be demolished.

iv) The inhabitants would go into exile in foreign lands.
