"Against the daughters of your people"

Text: Ezekiel 13:17

FALSE PROPHETESSES

The womenfolk of Judah were not far behind the false male prophets. The women proclaimed themselves as prophetesses!

“Likewise, son of man,
set your face against the daughters of your people,
who prophesy out of their own heart;
prophesy against them, and say,
‘Thus says the Lord God:
‘Woe to the women who sew magic charms on their sleeves
and make veils for the heads of people of every height to hunt souls!
Will you hunt the souls of My people, and keep yourselves alive?
And will you profane Me among My people
for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread,
killing people who should not die,
and keeping people alive who should not live,
by your lying to My people who listen to lies?””
Ezekiel 13:17-19

1. Set your face against the daughters of your people.

a) This is an obvious reference to the false prophetesses.

b) Ezekiel must not be afraid of prophesying against these women.

2. The activities of the false prophetesses.

b) They sewed magic charms on their sleeves.

c) They made special veils for the people.

d) They were in hunt for souls.

3. Serious questions raised by God to these prophetesses.

a) Will you hunt the souls of My people, and keep yourselves alive?
Did they think that there would be no consequences to their deeds?

b) And will you profane Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread?

i) They profaned the Lord’s name.

ii) They did this to earn some barley and bread.

c) They were lying to people and deceiving them.

d) Consequences

i) Some died (killed) when that should not happen.

ii) Others lived when they should be executed (killed).

iii) The activities of these false prophetesses created havoc.

e) Did these wicked people think they would not be chastened and punished by the LORD?
