THE THRONE OF DAVID

Text: Isaiah 9

THE REIGN OF KING DAVID

King David was the second ruler of ancient Israel. He was regarded as the best of all the kings of Israel. To David was given a special covenant. From the line of David would come one who would be far greater! The Messiah would fulfil this royal prophecy!

6 For unto us a Child is born,

Unto us a Son is given;

And the government will be upon His shoulder.

And His name will be called

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of His government and peace

There will be no end,

Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,

To order it and establish it with judgment and justice

From that time forward, even forever.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.     Isaiah 9:6-7

  1. The royal Son of David

a) The government would fall on His shoulders

b) He would have the greatest name ever

c) He would be given all of these titles and more

i)   Wonderful

ii)  Counselor

iii) Mighty God

iv) Everlasting Father

v)  Prince of Peace

  1. The challenging work of the Messiah

a) He would order and establish the kingdom

b) He would bring about judgment and justice

c) The zeal of the Lord would ensure that He would fulfil this prophecy

THE ROYAL MESSIAH

This prophecy highlights the greatness of the Lord Jesus as the royal Son of David! Yet this most noble Ruler chose to be the Servant of the LORD! How glorious it is to serve this great King!
