"This is the will of God..."

Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:18

FEAR THAT IS UNCALLED FOR

Many fear “the will of God”. They think that God may call them to do things that they do not like. The apostle Paul presents a view about the will of God that is truly uplifting.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

1. “The will of God”

a) This is to be discovered in the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) This perspective of the will of God is most insightful.

2. Three aspects may be highlighted:-

a) “Rejoice always”
i) God meant us to have joy in our life.
ii) When Christ came into the world He brought joy.
iii) He promised His disciples joy.
iv) The Spirit of God would create the fruit of joy in life.
b) “Pray without ceasing”
i) Prayer must be appreciated as a special privilege given to all the children of God.
ii) We have wonderful access to our Father in heaven.
iii) The Lord Jesus is our glorious Mediator.
iv) God will always take time to hear us when we pray.
c) “In everything give thanks”
i) The giving of thanks is in part related to prayer.
ii) It should also reflect our spirit of thanksgiving.
iii) There is every reason for us to give thanks to God for His blessing.
iv) It is His will to take care of us as our Heavenly Father.

WISDOM OBTAINED OVER THE YEARS

The apostle Paul wrote from a wealth of experience living out the will of God in his life. What he has written here in this text was well-reflected in his life. His writings display the certainty of his faith in God and His perfect will. There is everything to rejoice in as we contemplate the will of God.
