"Tychichus, a beloved brother..."

Text: Colossians 4:7

PUTTING INTO PRACTICE

The Apostle Paul was quick to apply what he had taught about the proper use of speech. He employed good words of commendation as he wrote about his fellow-workers.

GOOD WORDS OF COMMENDATION

Paul gave a glowing testimonial about Tychichus in the following text.

“Tychichus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and
Fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news
about me. I am sending him to you for this very purpose,
that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts.”

Colossians 4:7-8

1. Honouring Tychichus

a) As a beloved brother
b) As a faithful minister
c) As a fellow servant in the Lord

2. These were not just polite cliches

a) Tychichus must have proven himself well.
b) He had met Paul’s high standards.
c) These were true words of commendation from Paul’s heart.

3. “I am sending him to you for this very purpose”

a) Clear purpose was stated.
i) To know your circumstances.
ii) Tychichus was sent as Paul’s special emissary.
iii) He would represent Paul and learn about their circumstances.
b) His ministry to the Colossians.
i) He would inform them about Paul’s life and ministry.
ii) He would seek to bring comfort to the hearts of the believers in Colosse.
c) Reasons for this special ministry.
i) The Colossians did not know Paul personally.
ii) Tychichus would be able to inform them about Paul effectively because he was a close associate.

The apostle Paul exemplified well what it means to speak with grace and salt!
