"Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion." Psalm 2:6

Text: Psalm 2

DIVINE DECREE

The Divine involvement in the writing of the Scriptures is clearly exemplified in the following text.

“Yet, I have set My King
On My holy hill of Zion.”

Psalm 2:6

This text allows us to see a full display of how we may read this Psalm as containing both royal and Messianic elements.

1. The royal element- “My King”

a) The word royalty is of course associated with the throne and the monarch.
b) God gave Divine Laws to would-be kings (Deuteronomy 17:14-20)

A significant text may be cited to illustrate God’s involvement.

“You shall surely set a king over you
whom the LORD your God chooses…”

Deuteronomy 17:15a

2. My holy hill of Zion

a) Zion (Jerusalem) was the chosen capital by Divine Decree.
b) This declaration is most clearly seen in another psalm.

“For the LORD has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His dwelling place:
This is My resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.”

Psalm 132:13-14

3. The Messianic element

a) The Messianic element is essentially a prophecy concerning the Messiah.
b) The following prophetic thoughts may be enumerated:-
i) The Messiah will one day rule in Zion.
ii) He will rule as God’s anointed King.
iii) This is best understood in the context of a future millennial kingdom that the Messiah would set up one day (Revelation 20:4-6).
