"Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute sin."

Text: Romans 4:8

THE PROBLEM OF SIN

Paul wrote clearly and solemnly on the subject of sin. Let us recollect some of the more salient points he noted concerning this subject.

1. Sin brings about the wrath of God (Romans 1:18)

2. All sinners will be judged (Romans 1:32; 2:2, 6, 16)

3. All have sinned (Romans 3:23)

THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM OF SIN

Paul wrote as vigorously concerning God’s answer to the problem of sin.

1. God offers redemption/salvation.

2. Salvation is offered full and free through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. This salvation is offered through the matchless grace of God.

4. It is not obtainable through good works!

5. The believer who places his faith in Jesus as his Saviour and Lord enjoys the following:-

a) The righteousness of Christ is imputed to him.

b) The believer now stands before God as one totally righteous.

c) His sins are forgiven completely and freely.

d) The believer may indeed be truly called “blessed”.

RAMIFICATIONS OF IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS

How wonderful it is to ponder the ramifications of imputed righteousness! The following words are of great beauty and theological significance:-

1. Lawless deeds are “forgiven”.

2. Sins are “covered”.

3. The Lord shall “not impute sin” (Guilt, blame, penalty… they are all removed)!
