"Through one man sin entered the world..."

Text: Romans 5:12

A QUICK REVIEW OF THE DOCTRINE OF SIN

Paul launched into a penetrating theological study of the doctrine of sin. Let us consider what he had already taught on this same subject in the earlier chapters.

1. The sins of the Gentiles

a) Idolatry (Romans 1:23-25)
b) Rejection of God (Romans 1:28)
c) Miscellaneous sins (Romans 1:29-32)

2. The sins of the Jews

a) Hardness of heart (Romans 2:5)
b) Impenitence (Romans 2:5)
c) Breaking of the Law (Romans 2:12)

A FURTHER ANALYSIS OF THE DOCTRINE OF SIN

Paul went on to discuss the doctrine of sin at a deeper level.

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world,
and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men,
because all have sinned-”

Romans 5:12

1.Through one man sin entered the world

a) Paul had in mind the sin of Adam.
b) In this statement, Paul made clear his belief in:-
i) The creation story
ii) Adam and Eve as real beings (not just a myth)
iii) The original sin

2. Proof that sin has entered into the world

Paul argued that sin brought about death. If all men had to die one day, then it proved his point- that all men had sinned, and that sin has indeed entered the world.
