"But I see another law in my members..."

Text: Romans 7:23

TWO LAWS

Paul came to a very sobering conclusion in the following text.

“But I see another law in my members,
warring against the law of my mind,
and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin
which is in my members.”
Romans 7:23

1. The law in my members

a) It is sometimes identified as the “law of sin”.
b) It is also identified as the “law of evil”.
c) Sometimes it is possible to distinguish between the both; sometimes this is not possible.
d) The deadliness of this law is underscored here as something that exists in man.

2. War

a) The evil within the sin principle wars against the new nature Christ has given.
b) The war-goal of sin is very obvious and clear: it seeks to capture the believer.

WAGING A GOOD WARFARE

How may the believer wage a good warfare against sin and evil? Let us take time to recall what was written earlier. Three things may be highlighted:-

1. Faith – Romans 4-5

a) Faith is not just the means of our justification.
b) Faith can help us gain the upper hand and result in victory.

2. Grace of God – Romans 6

a) We will have to depend heavily on the grace of God that is in Christ Jesus.
b) We will have to yield ourselves consciously to the Lord as servants of righteousness.

3. Consciously battling sin – Romans 6-7

We will have to battle sin and evil most consciously! We must strengthen ourselves in every possible way if we are to have victory over sin and evil.
