“Let no one who waits on You be ashamed…” Psalm 25:3a

THE IDEA OF “SHAME”

The idea of being ashamed features prominently in the following text.

“Let me not be ashamedâ?¦
Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed;
Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.”
Psalm 25:2b, 3

1. Defining “shame”

a) It is a mixture of feelings.
b) The following may be cited:-
i) Disappointment
ii) Deep regret that trust is exercised in vain

2. Encouragement

a) To all who trust in God
b) To all who wait on the Lord
i) For His help
ii) For His deliverance
c) None would ever need to feel that he would be disappointed when waiting upon God.

3. Those who ought to be ashamed

a) The “enemies” (of David).
b) These are treacherous people.
c) They attack the righteous without any reason.
d) They may feel superior (at least for the moment).
e) In the end, they would be ashamed of their wrongdoing!
