Day 194 – Psalm 25

“Keep my soul, and deliver me…” Psalm 25:20a

DESPERATE TIMES

That David found himself in desperate circumstances was obvious. If the Lord would not come to his aid he knew he would perish! Desperate times challenge us to pray with great fervour and faith.

“Consider my enemies, for they are many;
And they hate me with cruel hatred.
Keep my soul, and deliver me;
Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.”
Psalm 25:19-20

1. “Enemies”

a) They were many in number.
b) They had “cruel hatred” in their hearts towards David.
c) They were on the verge of triumphing over him (Psalm 25:2c).

2. “I put my trust in You”

a) David began his prayer with a declaration of trust in the Lord (Psalm 25:2).
b) He spoke of trust again as he drew to the end of his prayer (Psalm 25:20).

3. Specific requests made

a) Trust was not “a general word” where David was concerned.
b) David prayed in trust that God would do the following things:
i) God would keep his soul (He would not perish at the hands of his enemies).
ii) God would actually deliver him out of his perilous circumstances.
iii) God would not let him “be ashamed” (Psalm 25:2).
iv) God would not cause him to feel let down or disappointed in his trust.

EXERCISING TRUST IN GOD

Trust must be carefully maintained in our relationship with God!
