"I will rejoice in Your salvation."

Day 69 – Psalm 9

“I will rejoice in Your salvation.” Psalm 9:14

A PERSONAL PLEA

From a discussion of the Lord as a Just Judge and as a Refuge, the psalmist David now quietly applied this knowledge of God into the personal context of his life.

“Have mercy on me, O LORD!
Consider my trouble from those who hate me,
You who lift me up from the gates of death,
That I may tell of all Your praise,
In the gates of the daughter of Zion,
I will rejoice in Your salvation.”
Psalm 9:13-14

1. “Have mercy on me, O LORD”

a) There is no sense of self-righteousness in this plea.
b) David pleads for “mercy” as one who is in desperate need for Divine help.

2. “Consider my trouble from those who hate me”

a) There were people who hated him.
b) These were wicked enemies who would not hesitate to destroy David and all he stood for, given half a chance.
c) He spoke of having “trouble” from his enemies!

3. You who lift me up from the gates of death.

a) David had an experience which nearly cost him his life (Psalm 6:5)
b) He recalls this incident and turns his past experience into faith.
c) He would look forward to God’s deliverance once again from “the gates of death”.

4. Two special determinations uttered

David determined in his heart that he would do two things if he were to be delivered from his enemies!

a) David would sing God’s praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion (a beautiful way of describing Jerusalem).
b) He would always rejoice in God’s salvation (deliverance).
