Day 76 – Psalm 10

“His mouth is full of cursing and deceit…” Psalm 10:7a

THE MOUTH OF THE WICKED

The psalmist adds one more observation about the wicked.

“His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression;
Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.”
Psalm 10:7

1. “His mouth is full of cursing”

a) “Cursing” is a terrible way of speaking to people.
i) Foul words would be employed.
ii) Demeaning words would be used.
iii) Anger would not be far away too!
b) Imagine one’s mouth described as “full of cursing!”

2. Deceit

a) The wicked is quite capable of “speaking nicely” too.
b) But behind the smooth words lies a heart of deceit.

3. Oppression

a) Words are powerful tools.
b) When used by mean people they are most oppressive!

4. “Under his tongue is trouble…”

a) The wicked thinks nothing of creating trouble for people.
b) He would as soon give trouble as he speaks!

5. Iniquity

a) This is a “catch-all” word that highlight the problem of sin.
b) Ultimately the wicked uses his mouth sinfully.

A CHALLENGE TO CHECK OUR USE OF THE TONGUE

Let us be reminded of the dangerous power associated with the tongue! (Read James 3 where the subject of the abuse of the tongue is also given needed attention)!
