Day 78 – Psalm 10

“Arise, O LORD!” Psalm 10:12a

AN IMPASSIONED CRY FOR JUSTICE

The psalmist was obviously perturbed by all that he observed about the wicked! With deep passion he penned the following words.

“Arise, O LORD! O God, lift up Your hand!
Do not forget the humble.
Why do the wicked renounce God?
He has said in his heart, ‘You will not require an account.'”
Psalm 10:12-13

1. A third “He has said in his heart”

a) The wicked had already renounced God.
b) They did not believe that they were accountable to man or to God.

2. “Arise, O LORD!”

a) This same cry was stated in another psalm (Psalm 9:19).
b) It is an impassioned cry.
c) It is a cry to the Lord to sit on His royal throne to administer justice (Psalm 9:7-8).

3. “O God, lift up Your hand”

a) The appeal is strengthened when two titles of God are used side by side.
i) “O LORD!”
ii) “O God!”
b) This is a solemn invocation of God’s name.
c) “Lift up Your hand”
i) All God needed to do would be to lift up His hand.
ii) Justice would be served.

4. Do not forget the humble

a) The plight of the humble (the poor and the helpless) is in mind
b) Surely the Lord would never forget the humble in his desperate state!
