"According to the revelation of the mystery"

Text: Romans 16:25

APPRECIATING THE MANNER IN WHICH GOD WORKS

The more Paul dwelt on who God was, and how He worked, the more he appreciated Him.

The following text reveals the manner in which God worked.

“Now to Him who is able to establish you
according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret
since the world began.”
Romans 16:25

1. The mystery kept secret since the world began

a) This mystery was kept hidden for millennia.
b) It was a mystery hinted at (Cf. Genesis 3:15).
c) It was a mystery prophesied by the prophets (Cf. Isaiah 42, 52, 53; Jeremiah 31, 33).
d) It was a mystery that was finally revealed to the apostles (Cf. Ephesians 3:1-12).
e) This mystery took shape and form in the gospel of Christ which Paul proclaimed.

2. Why was this mystery kept secret?

a) Man was not ready to receive the fullness of revelation.
b) Man was not able to fully comprehend God’s plan of redemption till all the parts were in place, in particular the incarnation of Christ.
c) In due time, God revealed the mystery of His full plan of salvation in Christ.

3. God’s work of establishing believers in their faith may be understood and appreciated as follows:

a) It would be according to God’s plan.
b) That plan of establishing believers had the following features:-
i) It would be according to the gospel.
ii) It would be according to the preaching about the Lord Jesus Christ.
iii) It would be according to the revelation of this mystery (concerning Christ).

Our challenge must surely be to devote time to the greater understanding of the Gospel!
