"I have fully preached the Gospel of Christ..."

Text: Romans 15:19

THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST

It is not difficult to understand and appreciate Paul’s love for the Gospel of Christ. The following text expresses the apostle’s commitment to the spread of the Gospel.

“In mighty signs and wonders, by the power of
the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about
to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.”
Romans 15:19

1. Profession of faith in the Gospel of Christ

The historic commencement of faith in the Gospel of Christ began on the road to Damascus (Cf. Acts 9). The erstwhile opponent of Christ became its most ardent exponent of the Gospel.

2. Preaching of the Gospel of Christ

Paul soon became not just a general preacher of the Gospel but in particular, he became the champion of the cause to win Gentiles to Christ! Through his singular effort of proclaiming the Gospel of Christ to the Gentiles, thousands came to saving faith.

3. Power of preaching

The success behind Paul’s mighty preaching of the Gospel is highlighted here:-

a) In mighty signs and wonders

These were powerful indicators that demonstrated an important truth- that Paul was the man God had chosen and approved of, as the apostle to the Gentiles!

b) By the power of the Spirit of God

Paul did not hesitate to speak of the power of the Spirit of God in his life and ministry! He had tasted of the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. He sought the filling of the Spirit of God in his life and ministry, with tremendous blessing from on high.

c) I have fully preached the Gospel

There was no question about the extent to which Paul was committed to preaching the Gospel!

i) Jerusalem had heard much about the former enemy of Christ who had embraced Christ Jesus as his Lord (Cf. Galatians 1:22).
ii) The Book of Acts traces the ministry of the hard working apostle of Christ to the Gentiles (Cf. Acts 9, 12-28). The Book of Acts detailed the growth of the early Church through two outstanding apostles of Christ; Peter, the leading apostle to the Jews, and Paul the apostle to the Gentiles.
