"...Fervent in spirit, serving the Lord."

Text: Romans 12:11

RAMIFICATIONS OF PRESENTING OURSELVES TO GOD

To the apostle Paul, presenting of ourselves to God as “a living sacrifice” is the most natural way to respond to the salvation He offers in Christ. .He then went on to discuss full ramifications of presenting oneself to God.

1. Understanding of the significance of belonging to the Body of Christ (Romans 12:3-5)

This doctrine must first be comprehended and appreciated. With understanding should come the desire to edify the Body of Christ!

2. Utilisation of Grace-Gifts

All grace-gifts are to be used exclusively to edify the Body of Christ (Romans 12:6-8).

3. The practice of Christian Love

All things must be done with the love of Christ filling the heart and mind! Any form of hypocrisy (false love) must be set aside (Romans 12:9-10).

A GREAT CHALLENGE TO SERVE FERVENTLY

The above constitute basic essentials! But there is more to learn about ministering for the Lord. Paul added further thoughts. Three ideas were singled out for specific mention.

“Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit,
serving the Lord.”
Romans 12:11

1. Not lagging in diligence

How easily it is to lose steam in serving the Lord. The believer must constantly check himself as to the manner of his service given to God. There must be “diligence” in service. Lagging in diligence will affect our service to God adversely!

2. Fervent in spirit

Paul offered a sharp contrast! There must be a great sense of fervour when we serve the Lord. This fervour is not external. There must be a fervour generated by a spirit that has been touched by the Love of God.

3. Serving the Lord

How vital it is to keep this thought in mind. The Lord deserves the very best from His servants! Every effort must be made to ensure that the service given to God is of the highest quality.

a) Selfish interest must be precluded.
b) Pure service must be offered to God.
