Exodus
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!" Isaiah 6:3
Text: Exodus 40:34-38
THE THEME OF THE GLORY OF GOD
The Book of Exodus extols the glory of God, and well it should! The glory of God was evidenced in so many ways. What aspects of the glory of God may be seen? Three things may be highlighted.
1. The Glory of His Power
This was well-evidenced in the plagues that were unleashed against a proud and wicked Pharaoh who resisted God.
2. The Glory of His Majestic Provision
God’s provision for Israel in the wilderness illustrates His glory wonderfully.
3. The Glory of His Being
God’s Presence was so filled with glory that Israel could not bear the strength of His Personal Presence when He came down to Mount Sinai.
THE GLORY OF GOD UPON THE TABERNACLE
What a wonderful blessing God bestowed upon Israel, when His glory filled the Tabernacle that was erected and consecrated by Moses.
“Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle of meeting,
and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.
And Moses was not able to enter the Tabernacle of meeting,
because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the LORD
filled the tabernacle.”EXODUS 40:34-35
Just how majestic was this expression of the glory of God? Even Moses who had stood in the very Presence of God, and had heard His voice personally, could not enter the Tabernacle of meeting. What a GLORIOUS PRESENCE!
THE CONTINUING PRESENCE OF GOD WITH HIS PEOPLE
The glorious presence of God was not limited to the day of Dedication of the Tabernacle. God was so pleased with Moses and Israel, that His Glorious Presence continued to manifest itself continually. In time, Israel learned to appreciate and to make appropriate responses to the Lord. God led His people by a pillar of cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night! What more could Israel ask from their glorious God?
“Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the Tabernacle,
the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys.
But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey
till the day it was taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was above
the Tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight
of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.”EXODUS 40:36-38
