Text: Exodus 35 : 31-33

THE BEAUTIFYING OF THE LORD’S HOUSE

The Tabernacle of the Lord was not just meant to be functional. It was also designed to be beautiful. In order for Bezalel and Aholiab to accomplish the task of making a beautiful Tabernacle for worship, they must be especially gifted.

EXCEPTIONALLY GIFTED

There can only be one Person who can make an individual possess such artistic gifts! The Biblical text makes it very clear that it was the Spirit of the Lord Himself who empowered Bezalel with extraordinary gifts.

“And He has filled him with the Spirit of God,
in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and
all manner of workmanship;
to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze,
in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work
all manner of artistic workmanship.”
EXODUS 35:31-33

This text helps to broaden our understanding as to what it means to be filled with the Spirit of God!

1. “In wisdom and understanding”

Not all artisans can be described in this manner. This phrase describes the innate ability of Bezalel to comprehend all that God wanted him to do in raising the Tabernacle.

2. “In knowledge and all manner of workmanship”

Most artisans are skilled in his chosen artistic medium! Those who are skilled in working with wood, may not have the skill to work in fields involving precious metals like gold and silver. It would take too long for any ordinary person to master “all manner of workmanship”. It would take nothing less than the Spirit of God to make this possible.

3. “To design artistic works”

Some artisans are good in their craft. But not all artisans are able to become great designers. Bezalel was truly given great gifts by the Spirit of God!

4. “To work in gold and silver and bronze”

Each metal has its own special properties. Few have skills in all three fields- unless you have the special filling of the Spirit of God!

5. “In cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood”

Bezalel must have been superbly skilled. No one could be so wondrously gifted, without the special blessing of the Lord! God had not only called Bezalel but He had also gloriously equipped him for the task of raising up a beautiful Tabernacle.
