 THE COMPROMISES PHARAOH OFFERED

Pharaoh kept coming up with one compromise after another. The intention behind all his compromises was essentially the same! He did not want to release the children of Israel from servitude.

1. Compromise #1- “In the land”

“Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.” Exodus 8:25

“… you shall not go very far away.” Exodus 8:28

2. Compromise #2- Only the men

“Not so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the LORD…” Exodus 10:11

3. Compromise #3- Flocks and herds to remain behind

“Go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be kept back. Let your little ones also go with you.” Exodus 10:24

FULL COMPLIANCE AND MORE DEMANDED

Moses saw through the latest compromise Pharaoh offered! He could not trust Pharaoh’s word! He had proven that his word was worthless! Moses responded with a demand for full compliance from Pharaoh and more!

“But Moses said, ‘You must also give us sacrifices
and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.
Our livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind.
For we must take some of them to serve the LORD our God,
and even we do not know with what we must serve the LORD
until we arrive there.'”
EXODUS 10:25

Pharaoh’s compromise was rejected outright. Moses had asked for nothing from Pharaoh thus far, only the freedom of the children of Israel. This time round, he suggested that Pharaoh should contribute to the sacrifices that the children of Israel were planning to give to the Lord!

RESORTING TO ARROGANT ANGER AGAIN

Pharaoh was furious when Moses spoke as he did! How dare this nobody speak to Pharaoh and make such demands!

“Then Pharaoh said to him, ‘Get away from me!
Take heed to yourself and see my face no more!
For in the day you see my face you shall die!'”
EXODUS 10:28

What irony! Indeed the two would never see each other again! But the outcome would not be as Pharaoh imagined!
