Day 105

1 Peter 4:2 "That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God."

Day 105 – Mark 4

MASTER OF THE SITUATION

Awaking from a much needed bit of rest, Jesus was immediately a master of the situation at hand.

“Then he arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea,
‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
MARK 4:39

In direct contrast to the Disciples, Jesus showed absolutely no fear at all. With a word, He calmed the storm! If only the Disciples had a greater understanding of the power of the word that Jesus spoke!

THE QUESTION OF FAITH

Jesus went on to address His frightened Disciples with the following words.

“But He said to them,
‘Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?'”
MARK 4:40

1. Fear versus faith

Fear and faith will always be at war with each other. The former will always challenge the latter. One will prevail against the other. Unfortunately, fear prevailed in the hearts of the Disciples.

2. No faith

What a strong statement Jesus made! What could He mean when He uttered these words to His disciples? The following observations may be made:-

a) Expectation of greater faith in Jesus

The Disciples should have understood that nothing could harm Jesus, till His work was done! Could Jesus have perished in this sudden windstorm?

b) Expectation of greater faith in the words of Jesus

Did not their Master speak of crossing the sea? Well, they would cross safely to the other side. His word was enough!

c) Expectation of application of faith into every situation in life

The Disciples had yet to learn how to apply their faith into life’s many varied circumstances.

A NEW LESSON LEARNED

At least, the Disciples learned something else new about Jesus that day.

“Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
