Exodus
Day
Day 277

"Those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar..." 1 Corinthians 9:13

Text: Exodus 29 : 26-28

THE THIRD PART

The third part involving the ram of consecration was of deep personal meaning and significance.

“Then you shall take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s consecration
and wave it as a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be
your portion. And from the ram of the consecration you shall
consecrate the breast of the wave offering which is waved, and the
thigh of the heave offering which is raised, of that which is for
Aaron and of that which is for his sons. It shall be from the
children of Israel for Aaron and his sons by a statute forever.
For it is a heave offering; it shall be a heave offering from the
children of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings,
that is, their heave offering to the LORD.”
EXODUS 29: 26-28

1. “It shall be your portion”

The rest of the ram of consecration was also waved before the Lord. However, this time round, it was not given as a burnt offering. Anything waved before the Lord as an offering belonged to the LORD! However, the Lord gave this offering to Moses as His loving provision for being a faithful servant.

2. “A heave offering”

What Moses received as his portion would have an extended application. The wave offering is also called “a heave offering”. The following application of the heave offering may be noted.

a) Support for Aaron and his sons
This will be the Lord’s special provision for Aaron and his sons.
b) “Peace offerings”
The context of Moses receiving his portion from the Lord was with reference to the consecration of the priests. But that was a special occasion. What about ordinary circumstances?
Provision was made for the priests through “peace offerings”. (This particular offering is well discussed in Leviticus 3. The idea of this offering centers in the word “peace”. It presupposes that atonement has been made through the sin offering. The worshipper has now been cleansed and he is at peace with God. This peace offering would be the equivalent of the special heave offering made by Aaron’s sons)!
c) “A statute forever”
The priests would always be cared for! The Lord made this a perpetual statute with the children of Israel to look after those who dedicated their lives to serve Him!
