Day 208

"I thought about my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies." Psalm 119:59

Text: Exodus 23 : 25-26

PROVISION FOR STARTING LIFE IN THE PROMISED LAND

God had already begun to prepare the children of Israel for life in Canaan. The following preparation had already been made:-

1. A national religion

This would bind the whole nation together. They would have one faith, one common heritage and one God.

2. A great judicial system

God’s laws were incomparable! Laws from other countries could not compare to the laws God had given to His people!

3. Good leaders

God had given them an outstanding spiritual leader in Moses. Then there was Joshua who with great patriotic courage led Israel’s army well!

4. A Faithful God who would stand by Hs people

This wonderful God had provided them the best Commander-in-Chief Israel could wish for!

5. An instructed nation

Moses and a great team of Elders worked very hard at teaching the children of Israel the laws of God! No effort was spared to ready the people!

ANTICIPATION OF LIVING IN THE PROMISED LAND

How did the children of Israel feel as they drew ever nearer to the Land of Promise? Perhaps the more important question should be what God desired of them! God’s hope for the children of Israel was expressed well and openly.

“So you shall serve the LORD your God,
and He will bless your bread and your water.
And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
No one shall suffer a miscarriage or be barren in your land;
I will fulfill the number of your days.”
EXODUS 23:25-26

1. Great and wonderful promises declared

The promises of God’s blessings were truly staggering! He would grant them such health and strength that illnesses, diseases, and even childlessness would never surface as a problem!

2. Challenge to “serve the LORD”

All God asked for in return was that they would not turn to idols in worship. Instead the nation should focus on serving their LORD God! Was that too much to ask?
