"Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise from the ends of the earth..." Isaiah 42:10

Text: Exodus 15 : 1-2

EVERY REASON TO RAISE A SONG OF THANKSGIVING

At last the experience of being in bondage to Pharaoh was finally over! No more would they hear the caustic, sneering voices of their cruel Egyptian masters! No more slaving from dawn to dusk, always risking their life and limb on endless building projects! No more would they feel the humiliation and pain from the whips of taskmasters! Pharaoh and all Egypt had been soundly defeated in battle. The mighty army of Egypt was completely crushed by none other than the God of the children of Israel!

“Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song
to the LORD, and spoke, saying:
‘I will sing to the LORD
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!'”
EXODUS 15:1

Thus began a great hymn of praise (often called “The Song of Moses”)! For the longest time, Israel did not seem to have any reason to sing at all! Now, the theme of their song was none other than the LORD Himself! The significant victory won inspired the writing of a song from Moses himself!

WITH A HEART PULSATING WITH GRATITUDE

The Song of Moses contained many deep and precious insights about God! The nature of Hebrew songs focuses on the content of the words, rather than the tune! Most times, Hebrew songs are didactic! This was one of the ways the present generation would pass down their faith to the next generation!

“The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
He is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.”
EXODUS 15:2

1. Strength

God had indeed given strength to Moses to lead the children of Israel! Just a little while ago, he was a humble shepherd. In a very short space of time, Moses had emerged into a man of great spiritual strength!

2. Song

There was a song in Moses’ heart now. He just felt that he must praise God and exalt Him! This song in his heart just asked to be let out!

3. Salvation

God had proven Himself to be a glorious Saviour! His forebears had found salvation in God! He too had now entered into that same experience of deliverance!
